Homeless and dying - his last wish is to see his dog

A dying mans last wish is granted

Until he became sick with lung cancer, Kevin McClain, of Cedar Rapids,  Iowa, lived in a car with his dog, Yurtie (aka Yurt), an 8-year-old Collie mix.

Taken to the hospital with incurable cancer, his dog was taken to the shelter.

He had just one wish: to see his beloved dog one last time before he died.

Yurtie, who was healthy, well-fed and groomed despite McClain’s condition, had been terrified and inconsolable since she was brought to the shelter.

At the hospice, McClain, who had lived with Yurtie since the pup was about 6 weeks old, wasn’t very communicative. The only thing he would talk about was seeing his dog.

Yurti was later driven by ambulance to the hospice where she laid down upon her master, he, gently stroking her head.

“Behave. You behave,” were his final words to Yurtie. He died the next day.

A few weeks later, Yurtie was adopted by by a couple who had been mourning the loss of their own pet.

With love and understanding, Yurti and family are learning to love again.

  2. This post made me so very sad that we separate people from their pets and don't give them time to say goodbye. Thanks for sharing.

Dropping by on the pet blogger hop tonight. Have a happy weekend with your fur-kids.
